Refill. helps you keep track of household supplies and reminds you when something is running low. This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes.
The Short Version
- We (simpleThings.) do not collect, store, or receive any of your personal data. We have no servers and no accounts.
- Your items stay on your device (and in your own device backups, if you use them).
- When you scan a barcode, only the barcode number is sent to the free public product databases Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts, so the app can suggest a product name.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking.
What Stays on Your Device
Your item list (names, barcodes, quantities, minimum quantities, shopping-list status, and timestamps) is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. The app does not sync it to iCloud or any server, and it is not accessible to us. Deleting the app deletes the copy on your device.
Device backups. Like other apps, Refill.'s data may be included when you back up your device with iCloud Backup or to your computer, and restored along with that backup. Those backups are created and kept by Apple or on your own computer. We have no access to them.
Barcode Lookup (Data That Leaves Your Device)
When you scan a barcode, Refill. sends that barcode number over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to:
- Open Food Facts — world.openfoodfacts.org
- Open Beauty Facts — world.openbeautyfacts.org
The barcode number is sent only to look up the product's name. No other data is sent. The request does not include your name, your item list, quantities, or any identifier about you or your device. The only other information is what every internet connection carries: your device's IP address and a standard technical header that identifies the app and iOS version.
These lookups are handled by Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts, and their privacy policies apply. Open Food Facts states that it keeps IP addresses and server logs for security and statistics.

If you don't want this lookup to happen, you can add items by typing the name yourself. Nothing is sent when you do that.
Permissions
Refill. asks for these permissions only when you use the related feature. You can turn each one off at any time in iOS Settings.
- Camera — to scan product barcodes. The camera image is processed on your device and is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere.
- Notifications — to remind you when items are running low. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device.
- Reminders — only if you choose to export your shopping list. Refill. creates a new reminder in Apple's Reminders app. That reminder is then handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy (for example, it syncs through your iCloud if you have that turned on).
In-App Purchase
Refill. is free for up to 3 items. An optional one-time purchase ("Refill. Full Access") unlocks unlimited items. It is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment or billing information. Apple's privacy policy applies: apple.com/legal/privacy
Deleting Your Data
- Items: delete an item on the home screen by swiping left on it, or by long-pressing it and choosing Delete.
- Deleting the app removes your items from your device. Copies may remain in your own device backups until those backups are replaced or deleted.
- Exported shopping lists live in Apple's Reminders app. Delete them there.
- Because we never receive or hold any of this data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side, and no request to make to us.
Children's Privacy
Refill. does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we will post the new version at this URL and update the date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
